5 Awesome Couples Activities in El Salvador

El Salvador is one of the lesser visited countries of Central America, making it a wonderful place for those couples that are eager to get away from the crowds and development of more popular destinations. If the idea of doing something off the beaten path sounds appealing to you and your partner, try checking out this warm country. Start with these 5 ideas:

Tour the Parque Arqueológico Joya de Cerén – These modestly sized archeological ruins are the perfect place to go for an hour or two without worrying about feeling overwhelmed. You’ll be able to imagine what life was like thousands of years ago, appreciate nature’s power as you consider the city formerly being covered thanks to multiple volcanic eruptions, and get a mini history lesson to boot.

Hike at Parque Nacional el Boqueron – Some easy hiking will lead you to a lookout platform over the edge of a volcano’s crater. After you’ve admired that view, explore the other rim trails to see beautiful trees and flowers and stunning views of San Salvador and the San Vincente volcano behind it. On your way up to the main gate, stop at one of the multiple fruit stands to stock up your picnic basket so you and your sweetie can enjoy your treats al fresco at the edge of a volcano!

Go Scuba Diving at Lake Ilopango – Talk about a unique experience…scuba diving in a lake in a volcano’s crater! The lake is home to plenty of aquatic life, including fish, crabs, and more, plus has lots of hardened lava stones. First timers and advanced divers are welcome.

Take a Bike Tour of Santa Tecla – Santa Tecla is El Salvador’s second largest city and is home to a museum, cathedral, the Palace of Culture and Arts, a farmers market, and lots more hidden gems. Explore these cultural attractions in a fun, active way while learning all about their history and national relevance.

Relax at a Beach Club in Tamanique – It doesn’t matter whether you two like the pool or the beach better–you’ll enjoy both at the Atami Escape Resort. The property has a collection of fresh water and saltwater pools, the latter perched cliffside and overlooking the ocean. In between all the swimming and eating, be sure to wander along the naturally landscaped boardwalk.

One of the most charming things about traveling to a less-visited country, like El Salvador, is the chance to soak up the local culture and learn about the local way of life from those who live there. Speaking Spanish will give you the power to chat with locals and truly appreciate the beauty and history of El Salvador. We invite you to contact us to learn more about how our instructors can help you hone your Spanish skills and prepare for an upcoming adventure.
