Chicago is the third-largest city in the United States, with almost three million residents. Among them are over 800,000 Hispanics, who make up the largest minority demographic in the city. According to a 2013 U.S. census report, approximately 18% of residents over the age of five speak Spanish at home in the greater Chicago area. So, taking Spanish lessons will not only be helpful to make the most out of your travels to Spain and Latin America, but it will also allow you to connect with Spanish-speaking communities and businesses around the city. Contact Language Trainers today and we will offer you a personalized program that suits your skills and preferences!

Why Study Spanish in Chicago

Learn Spanish for Culture: A variety of neighborhoods on the west side of Chicago are home to cultural monuments, primarily dedicated to Mexican heritage and traditions - a perfect place for learning Spanish in Chicago! In the neighborhood of Pilsen, you will find the National Museum of Mexican Art on 19th Street, which holds a tribute to Day of the Dead, or Dia de Los Muertos, each year just after Halloween. Residents create ofrendas, or altars, with colorful displays of objects that are representative of their loved ones who have passed on. And outside of the small neighborhoods, Chicago offers cultural centers all around the city. In the Loop stands the International Latino Cultural Center on Van Buren Street, an organization dedicated to connecting people with Hispanic heritage through events like the Chicago Latino Film Festival and the Chicago Latino Music Festival.

Learn Spanish for Social: And if you are looking to socialize while using your new Spanish skills, why not join the Chicago Spanish Language Meetup Group? These people meet once a week to speak in Spanish and have a good time. They welcome all levels of Spanish, from beginners to advanced speakers, so don’t be shy and take advantage of this opportunity to further practice what you learn with us at Language Trainers! After the meeting, you can try some Spanish dishes in tapas bars and restaurants, such as El Milagro Tortilla on Blue Island Avenue or Birrieria Reyes de Ocotlan on 18th Street. Another popular Hispanic area you can visit is Little Village, which is part of the South Lawndale neighborhood on the west side of the city. Here, residents can find traditional storefronts, Mexican bakeries, ethnic grocery stores, and paleteros pushing ice cream carts in the summertime.

Learn Spanish for Work: Aside from culture, Chicago has many ties with businesses based in Latino countries, particularly Mexico. Chicago and Mexico City are sister cities, and some of the largest Mexican companies have a dominant presence in Chicago, including Bimbo Bakeries, Famsa, Cemex, and Amtex Chemical. These businesses are usually looking for Spanish speakers to add to their teams, so allow yourself to take advantage of these professional opportunities by taking some lessons with us at Language Trainers! And if you would like to connect with fellow entrepreneurs, you should get in touch with the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on Merchandise Mart Plaza. This institution empowers entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses and promotes friendly relations between Spain and Chicago. Why not go to these events and impress the attendees with your flawless Spanish skills?
