She served in the South African Police at the peak of the Apartheid era, and resigned as Warrant Officer in the "New South Africa" (1990-2003), during which time her high point was shaking hands with Nelson Mandela for exemplary service and conduct. After resigning, she discovered her passion for paragliding and became a freelance writer, editor, and photographer. She now resides in a tiny village in The Garden Route, South Africa, with her daughter Julia and a black cat named Snowball.
