The Italian community has had strong, established roots in Canada ever since the first Italian explorer, Giovanni Caboto, arrived in 1497. Over 1.5 million Canadian citizens today claim full or partial Italian ancestry, making them the 7th largest ethnic group in the country. In Edmonton alone, over 12,000 people speak Italian. As a result, taking Italian courses in Edmonton is an excellent way to participate in a vibrant and active community which has played a vital role in shaping Canada’s, and Edmonton’s, modern-day multicultural identity. Just get in touch with us at Language Trainers and let’s get started!

Why Study Italian in Edmonton

Learn Italian for Work: Taking Italian lessons in Edmonton is the perfect way to take full advantage of the potential business opportunities, both in the city and abroad. As our world becomes increasingly globalized, doing business demands knowledge of multiple languages. According to the BBC, one estimate puts the value of knowing a second language at up to $128,000 over 40 years—a massive financial benefit which also opens the door to a wider variety of careers and opportunities. Edmonton, as Canada’s lead oil producer, is already centre stage for overseas commerce. Considering the recent Comprehensive Economic and Trading Agreement between Canada and the EU, applied provisionally in 2017, and the fact that Italy is already Canada’s third-most important trading partner within the EU, the business and trade opportunities between Italy and Edmonton look set only to increase. Soon, learning the language will be key to establishing positive business relationships.

Learn Italian for Social: If you are more interested in making friends with a similar interest in the Italian language, then it is a good idea to join the Edmonton Italian Speakers Meetup Group. This is a space to practice speaking and listening to Italian. No matter if you are a beginner student wanting to learn, advanced speaker desiring to practice or would like to travel to Italy, you will be able to achieve your goal. And why not take your new friends to an excellent Italian restaurant? For example, you can go to Cafe Amore Bistro on 106 Ave. or Vivo Ristorante on Lessard Road. There, you can order spaghetti, lasagna, gnocchi or true Italian pizza! Their menus are entirely in Italian, so after some classes with us at Language Trainers, you will be able to order these delicious dishes without asking the waiter for help!

Learn Italian for Travel & Culture: Not just in social settings or business, language permeates every aspect of life. If you are a beginner, or if you are looking to study more languages, Italian is one of the best in which to invest. For example, it will allow you to explore a country with the largest number of UNESCO sites in the world. In a little over 12 hours, you will be in the stunning city of Rome, speaking with the locals, using the language skills you learned in your lessons! And if you would like to experience Italian culture in Edmonton itself, you can attend one of the many events organized by the Italian Cultural Centre on 133 Avenue NW. Since 1983, this institution has been organizing numerous activities, such as crocheting classes, workshops and festivals, to keep the Italian culture in the city alive. Don’t miss this opportunity to communicate with native speakers and impress them with your pronunciation and vocabulary!
